British Home Secretary David Blunkett has warned that a terrorist attack was inevitable in Britain, and that security measures alone were not sufficient to stop the threat.
Asked if such an attack was a question of ‘‘when, not if’’, Blunkett told BBC Television on Tuesday: ‘‘Yes, it’s the view that’s been expressed by the head of the (Home) Security Service, Eliza Manningham-Buller.’’
The statement came as charges were framed against two men alleged to have been the bodyguards of Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden. They are the first British prisoners from Guantanamo Bay to go on trial.
