BATALA, Jan 15: Police claimed to have arrested a militant Gurmej Singh alias Geja alias Chhota Galna during a nakabandi near village Umarpura near here last night.Senior Superintendent of Police Batala Lok Nath Angra said a police party led by SP (Detective) H.S. Saba apprehended Gurmej and recovered a .32 bore revolver and six live cartridges from him.The SSP said Geja had confessed that he, alongwith other militants, had killed a person at Jabowal village after kidnapping him in 1992. He was also responsible for a shootout incident at Saidpur village in Majitha police district .

and had snatched weapons from Saidpur and Bhatti ke village. He further confessed that he had kidnapped Harjinder Singh, brother of Sarpanch of Bhatti ke village and extorted Rs 3 lakh.

Angra said police arrested 10 militants last year.

Time table changed
Batala: District Administration Gurdaspur has revised the time table of government primary schools in the district following cold weather and thick fog. S.K. Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner in his letter has ordered the opening of primary schools from 9.30 am to 2 pm instead of 9am to 2 pm.

BSP takes out rally
Batala: The local unit of Bahujan Samaj Party today took out a rally against price hike and recent attacks on Churches in the different parts of the country. The procession started from Nehru gate and terminated at SDM’s office where they submitted a memorandum to SDM Batala, A.K. Sinha.
