Before this game India had recorded an easy win over Kenya, who were shot out for 90. But things changed after the loss as the Indians lost to South Africa in the next game.

The loss saw the start of India’s lean patch in ODIs. Vaas and Murali ran through the Indian line-up as Lanka won the Cup.
