Imagine throwing all the ingredients you have into a large pot and mixing them together. What do you get? Khichdi? Well, not always. This is what Network18’s new venture, in.com(beta), is all about. And it certainly is no khichdi.
“in.com is your gateway to the web,” says the site. Gateway to the Web? One would associate the term with Google—there is a reason it is set as the homepage of most browsers.
It was AOL which started rolling out its own innovative software to give users the Internet experience they deserve. Everything from entertainment (videos, streaming radio, games), news and community groups to chat came in one package. A lot of others too have positioned themselves as “the gateway”— Yahoo for one, or even our very own Rediff and IndiaTimes. So, how is in.com different from the rest?
GETTING IN
Sign up for free. Once you are logged in, the homepage will show you everything that’s in it! Hover your cursor over the main menu to read, listen, watch, play, find or mail, and you will have various options. For instance: When you hover the mouse over the ‘watch’ icon, it highlights categories, top videos, video of the day. Just click and watch!.
Also, the homepage shows you whether you have any new or unread emails in your inbox. We all love shortcuts, don’t we?
in.com also gives you the option of making friends on the Internet, or connecting with friends online. Click on ‘my profile’ and fill in the details. You can also upload your pictures, just like all social networking sites.
To the right, you have a list of what others have been reading, watching or playing. And what’s more, you can rate songs you’ve listened to, videos you’ve watched and games you’ve played online. ‘My feeds’ allows you to edit and add news stories relevant to you.
Doesn’t matter what you’re searching for in.com gets you the results, and fast.
EMAILIN
in.com gives you an email account that’s quick and has 10GB storage space. The best thing about the email here is that your mails don’t open in a different window, there are separate tabs for every mail. Something that Gmail doesn’t have. So it’s faster and uncomplicated. Unlike Rediffmail or Yahoomail, you can directly attach files to your mails. And then there are anti-spam and anti-virus filters too. Your messages get autosaved as drafts so that you don’t lose any vital data. You can import your contacts from any other address book. And hey, autocomplete for the addresses, just like Gmail.
