The sleuth style

Had he been around, Sherlock Holmes would have made the perfect style icon for the season. The trench coat, every detective’s favourite attire, is back in vogue. “You might think summer is the wrong time to wear trench coats, but there’s so much one can do with the silhouette that it turns out to be a perfect summer complement,” says Delhi designer Anupama Dayal.

So, if you are not comfortable with the long , flowing look, make it short and funky. “The latest thing in trenches are the crop trench coats, which are tiny and more relaxed,” says Dayal.

Sleeveless trenches with low belts give you a slouchy but eye-catching look. Summer calls for relaxed fits, so it’s the right time for experimentation. “I play around a lot with fabrics—satin and silk with vintage embroidery for a luxe look and neon brights for the rain trenches to give it a sporty feel,” says Dayal.
So don’t hide the coats at the back of your closet. Bring them out and liven up your summer.
