There is no magic wand with Patil to end Amarnath row: Cong

Congress said neither Home Minister nor the government has a ‘magic wand’ to end the Amarnath land crisis.

Defending Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, who has come under attack over the handling of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the Amarnath land row, the Congress on Wednesday said neither he nor the government has a “magic wand”.

“There is no magic wand with the Home Minister or the government,” Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters when asked whether the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has turned from bad to worse because of the Home Minister’s “lethargy”.

Singhvi said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi have taken an unique initiative in reaching out to the people in Jammu and Kashmir and also sections of the political class.

He claimed the Congress has been most moderate and reasonable and was not playing politics in the border state while other political parties were doing so.

“They should emulate the Congress the way it has dealt with the issue,” said Singhvi.
