
PUNE, JUNE 15: In a major daylight theft at the residence of Vishwas Gangurde, MAFCO chairman and former city unit chief of Bharatiya Janata Party, cash and valuables amounting to Rs 1.38 lakh were stolen by unidentified thieves on Monday afternoon.
The theft took place between noon and 5 p.m. at Suryaprabha Garden society Kenjalenagar, Bibvewadi. The thieves managed to break the lock, entered the bedroom, and later took away a cash of Rs 1.02 lakh, and gold and silver ornaments valued at Rs 36,700.
Gangurde’s wife Madhura, a headmistress in a private school had left home yesterday morning since it was the first day of school. Gangurde’s daughter works in a bank and she too left home early. The theft was discovered only after Madhura Gangurde returned home in the evening. Experts could trace some finger prints, but the sniffer dog brought to the site failed to provide any vital clue.
The Swargate police are investigating.
CHAIN SNATCHED: In another incident of chain snatching, unidentified thieves on a two-wheeler, snatched a necklace valued at Rs 40,000 from a 62-year- old woman near Sadhu Vaswani Chowk on Monday morning. Leena Lanchand Parwani, resident of Quartergate Housing Society in Nana Peth was about to enter the Sadhu Vaswani Mission when the thieves struck. The necklace was studded with diamonds. The incident occurred at 10.30 a.m. The Bund Garden police are investigating.
CASH STOLEN: Unidentified thieves stole a bag containing Rs 13,493 in cash by breaking open the boot of a scooter near New Modikhana in Camp area on Monday evening. The theft took place at around 3.45 p.m. Shreerang Nagurkar, a resident of Saniknagar Sapras Alandi Road has lodged a complaint with the Cantonment police.
