Third front a Left ploy, says BJP

The ‘third alternative’ mooted by the CPI-M at the national level was only a ruse to keep the BJP away from power and such a set up was not workable at the Centre where coalitions headed either by the Congress or BJP alone offered stable government, BJP national Secretary Balbir Punj said on Wednesday.

The CPI-M was harping on a third alternative just as a ruse to keep the BJP out despite the reality that coalitions led either by the BJP or the Congress could alone offer a stable governement, he told reporters in Kozhikode.

He said the UPA Government, which ‘inherited a stable’ economy from the previous NDA rule, had miserably failed in tackling inflation with prices of essential commodities going up from 40 to 100 per cent.

On political violence in Kannur involving RSS and CPI-M workers, he said the LDF Government in the state should function like a people’s government and not as a government for the CPI-M.

Asked about prospects of his party breaking its electoral jinx in Kerala, he said “all avenues are open to open the account.”
