The Third Front has become a strong alternative in national politics and it will take shape in two-three months, Samajwadi Party President and Uttar Pradesh CM Mulayam Singh Yadav said on Sunday.

‘‘All regional and national parties have more or less accepted the political weight and existence of the Samajwadi Party… That is why the party is assuring that the formation of a Third Front will take shape in two-three months,’’ he said. Yadav, who predicted a split in the UPA, said Manmohan Singh is a ‘‘weak’’ PM, which is ‘‘not in the interest of the nation’’. ‘‘The PM should be strong so that the interest of the nation could be saved.’’

But in Hyderabad, HRD Minister Arjun Singh said, ‘‘There is absolutely no threat to the UPA Government even if a Third Front emerges. The government will continue to implement its progressive policies.”

The Minister added that the UPA Government is closely watching developments in Gujarat.
