Three activists of the Bhumi Uchched Pratirodh Committee were allegedly beaten up by CPI-M workers as sporadic clashes continued between the two groups in different villages of trouble-torn Nandigram.While one BUPC worker was assaulted Tuesday night, two others were beaten up today at Keyakhali village in Nandigram I block. Two of them have been admitted to Nandigram hospital, BUPC sources said.The local administration, meanwhile, demolished three bamboo bridges allegedly being used by the Marxist cadre to launch attacks against BUPC workers.Nandigram BDO Santiram Gharai ordered the dismantling of the bridges over Talpatti canal connecting the CPI-M stronghold Khejuri and Adhikaripara and Garupara areas of Nandigram that saw clashes between the CPI-M and BUPC in the last few days ahead of the May 11 panchayat polls.The makeshift bridges were erected last year by the CPI-M cadre.State Home Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty visited Nandigram police station last night.The absence of the bamboo bridges would not inconvenience people as a concrete bridge already exists there connecting the two areas.BUPC workers had dug up roads and damaged a key bridge to prevent entry of CPI-M workers yesterday after armed Marxist 'recaptured' Satengabari from the BUPC, forcing hundreds to flee.
