The Mumbai police have arrested three persons belonging to a fundamentalist group in connection with the two bomb blasts in the city in the first week of December.‘‘The group was involved in both blasts, one in a BEST bus at Ghatkopar railway station and another at a food plaza at Mumbai Central station. The same group had planted a timed device in another BEST bus at SEEPZ too,’’ Commissioner of Police M.N. Singh said here. The breakthrough comes 20 days after the blast killed two commuters and injured 29 at Ghatkopar in the eastern suburbs on December 2. Later that evening, another bomb was detected and isolated by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad of the city police in a BEST bus at SEEPZ in Andheri in the western suburbs. On December 6, an explosion occurred in a food plaza near the Mumbai Central railway station, injuring 25 people.‘‘The three persons arrested were Mumbai residents and had conducted the operation with support from organisations outside the city,’’ Singh said. He ruled out any involvement of Naxalite group.
