Twenty-three years after they allegedly siphoned off funds meant for procuring insecticides, 14 employees of the Jharkhand Forest Department, including three senior Indian Forest Service officers, have been chargesheeted for fraud and criminal conspiracy.

According to the chargesheet filed in the district court here last week, between 1982 and 1985 these forest officials, then posted in West Singhbhum district, floated bids and selected a bogus company—Krishi Vikas Kendra,Gaya—for procuring insecticides. The officials then prepared forged documents showing the insecticides were utilised in an afforestation programme, causing a loss of Rs 3.21 lakh to the Forest Department.
