SURAT, Jan 17 :Three persons died on the spot and six were injured when a tempo carrying them overturned near Umarpada village in Mangrol taluka on Saturday evening. The tempo driver — who was illegally ferrying persons on the route — is since absconding, the district rural police said.

Gangaben Amrut Chaudhary (45), a resident of Jamnakuwa village of Mandvi, Mansinh Baliya Vasava (35) from Panchamba village of Umarpada in Mangrol taluka and Bhurabhai Singabhai Vasava (34) of Netrang village of Mangrol were killed in the accident that occurred at around 3 pm on the Kim Mandvi highway. All the deceased were manual labourers and died on the spot under the weight of the tempo.
