NEW DELHI, January 15: Three meet records were established on the opening day of the two-day 32nd Life Insurance Corporation of India athletic meet at the Nehru Stadium here today.

Vinita Tripathi of North Zone set a new meet record in women’s 200 metres event by clocking 24.1 seconds. The old mark of 24.4 seconds stood in the name of G Vasanthi.

The second meet record of the day was established by Lekha Roy of South Zone in long jump when she bettered her existing mark of 5.99 metres by leaping to a height of 6.03 metres.

The credit for the day’s third record went to Hardeep Kaur of North Zone in women’s hammer throw event. She hurled the hammer to a distance of 45.68 metres.

Gurmeet Kaur, the bronze medal winner in javelin in the Bangkok Asian Games, was presented a cheque of Rs 25,000 by LIC chairman, G Krishnamurthy, during the colourful opening ceremony at the Nehru Stadium. The meet will conclude tomorrow.
