MUMBAI, June 17: The City Civil and Sessions Court recently sentenced three men to 10 year’s rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of them for possessing heroin. However, the court acquitted the fourth accused, a police constable attached to the Mumbai police, for lack of evidence.
The case tried under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 at the City Civil and Sessions Court, dates back to March 26, 1994.The culprits were arrested by the officers of the Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai police with 1 kg heroin each. While Mohammed Vakil and Akbar were held at Shuklaji street, Nagpada, Ayub Baig and Mahesh Gawde, the constable, were nabbed near the Bandra court.
