BVB boys, on the other hand, seemed to be novices against the superior side and did not know what to do against a sustained onslaught. But they should consider themselves lucky not have been beaten more resoundingly.

Within six minutes of the game, Dallas Bastin found the net with his crips shot from outside the box. But St Mary’s jubilation was shortlived as the lead was neutralised soon after. BVB’s Mahipal made most as his shot from centreline beat advancing goalkeeper Keshav. The St Mary’s custodian was beaten by the flight of the ball.

St Mary’s surged ahead once again when Bastin placed the ball from close. This goal not only infused blood into St Mary’s attack but also opened the floodgates as Shikhil Suri accounted for their third goal. Bastin struck his third goal to make it 4-1 before Suri shot home the freekick off a minus pass from right.

Having made sure of a vicotry, St Mary’s boys on resumption took the game rather lighly and simply toyed with their rivals. In their overenthusiasm, they also sprayed the ball here and there and seemed contend in indulging in unnecessary aerial shots. But as ill-luck would have it, the BVB boys became rough in their game and consequently conceded a penalty. Bastin made no mistake with his shot.

In the second match of the day, Frank Anthony Public School scored an upset 2-0 win over Col. Satsangi Kiran Memorial School. The latter, who had been performing well so far — they topped their pool in league matches — failed to combine well on this day and conceded a goal in each half.

Even before the teams could size up each other, came the fastest goal of the tournament from Vikash Raina. He placed the ball in after beating two defenders with the game barely 42 second old. This seemed to have upset Col Satsangi boys rhythm and they packed the defence with more boys. This proved to be their undoing also as on resumption, Vishal Raina’s 35-yarder found the roof of the net.

Frank Anthony will now meet General Raj School, who also advanced with a 5-0 triumph over Vidhan Chandra School (Motibagh). The winners began cautiously scoring just once in the first session but gathered pace after change of end to strike on four occasions.Jayant Sarin and 3Joydeep Pal scored a brace each while Mung Sing struck the other goal.

Sawan Public School (Chattarpur) also reached the next round with a solitary goal win over Vasant Valley School. The all-important goal was struck by Kamlesh Pandey in the first half of play.

With better of exchanges, Sawan boys should have struck more but successfully defended the slender lead with little opposition from Vasant Valley in the later part.
