
Senior Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde, who is most likely to replace Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, left for Mumbai today.
Shivraj Patil, senior Congress leader and another contender for the post, is already in Mumbai.
A Congress team, consisting of party general secretary in-charge of Maharastra Vayalar Ravi and Congress Working Committee members Pranab Mukherjee and Ghulam Nabi Azad that left for Mumbai yesterday, were to brief Congress president Sonia Gandhi over the telephone late tonight.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh is scheduled to visit the Capital tomorrow. However, the party indicated that it was not planning any changes at the governmental or organisational level in Madhya Pradesh.
‘‘In Madhya Pradesh, both the government and organisation are working in close cooperation,” said AICC general secretary Ambika Soni who is in-charge of the state.
