CHANDIGARH, Nov 24: Michael Dass scored a 3-1 victory over Mohit Bajaj to claim snooker title in the 16th Chandigarh state billiards and snooker championship which concluded at Chandigarh Billiards Coaching Centre in Sector 22.

Down by a frame, Michael Dass bounced back on the winning track to outplay Mohit, who was also finalist in the billiards event.

Michael, who lost the first frame 31-52, showed remarkable consistency in the following frames 84-38, 58-56, 66-23, to wrap up the contest.

SD School excel
SD School-32 beat DAV Senior Secondary School-8, 49-46 to win the title in the second Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) North-East zonal basketball championship held at Ludhiana recently.

Hockey trials
More than 20 teams are expected to take part in the All India Civil Services hockey tournament to be held from December 10 to 15 at Sector 42 Hockey Stadium, under the aegis of Chandigarh Sports Department.

Trials to select Chandigarh team would be held on November 28 at Hockey Stadium at 3 p.m.

Walk events
Walk events would be held as a part of the Chandigarh carnival celebration, in senior group on November 28 at 6.30 a.m., at Leisure Valley.

Competition will be held in 60 to 65, 65 to 75, 75 to 85 and above 85 years categories.

Entries close with Inder Pal Singh, Assistant Secretary, Chandigarh Sports Council, Sector 9.

Sunil is best athlete
Sunil Yadav and Kavita of Sports Complex, Sector 46 were declared best athletes in the under-20 boys and girls section, respectively, in the athletic meet held at Ram Darbar.

Upender to lead
Upender Kumar of Delhi and Shalini Malhotra of Haryana will lead the Indian men and women teams respectively, in the the seventh World Yoga Sports championship to be held in Buenos Aires (Argentina) from November 28.

According to Dharam Vir, president, Indian Yoga Federation, H D Kaushik would be the chef-de-mission of the 12-member contingent for the two-day meet.

Thirteen countries are expected to take part in the meet. Besides India, other participating countries includes Brazil, Greece, Australia and Germany.

The president also informed that the 17th National yoga meet will be held from December 14 to 16 at Bangalore. Competitions will held for sub-junior, junior, senior and veteran categories.

Cricket tourney
The first Murari Lal Kaushik Memorial cricket tournament will be held at Goverment School, Sector 27 from December 20.

The matches will be played on knock-out basis.

Entries close on December 10, with Lalit, H.No-1097, Sector 19-B.
