In the wake of complaints of large-scale deletion of voters names from the electoral rolls, Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer Mrutunjay Sarangi today announced the setting up of a voters registration cell in his office here.

In a statement tonight, he said the voters, whose name had been deleted, could send an application, mentioning their name, age, present address and their previous address. If the voters possessed an electors photo identiy card, they could attach a photocopy of the same, he said. All the applications would be sent to respective zonal officers, who would take steps to include the names of the applicants after field verification.

Applications in bulk from political parties or associations would not be entertained, Sarangi said. Similar cells would be opened in all districts, he added.
