Congress is busy pacifying factions in Maharashtra for the acceptance of Ranjit Deshmukh as Pradesh Congress Committee chief, failing which he may be accommodated in the state ministry. It is particularly tricky for the party, that cleared his name for the post last month, but had to hold back a formal announcement. The deepening crisis also forced the party to let Govindrao Adik, outgoing MPCC chief, to continue in his post till a replacement was found. In the state ministry reshuffle last month, Adik had been shifted to the Cabinet as Minister for Agriculture. Now with the Congress’ ‘‘one-man one-post’’ policy, Adik may soon have to either let go of the PCC berth or the portfolio.
