PUNE, Dec 30: The city police have made security arrangements and imposed traffic regulations on some main roads in view of the new year celebrations on Thursday.The traffic branch will be initiating strict penal action against vehicle owners who drive drunk. Vigilance squads will be posted at important chowks to curb any traffic offence and to ensure smooth movement of traffic. Barricades will also be put up at important roads such as Jangli Maharaj road, Fergusson College road, Senapati Bapat road, Karve road, Tilak road, Bajirao road, Shivaji road, Mangaldas road, Laxmi road, Mahatma Gandhi road, Dhole Patil road, Bharati Vidyapeeth road, and Vallabhnagar road.Traffic on Mahatma Gandhi road from Aurora Towers chowk to Mahaveer chowk will be closed for all vehicles from 10 p m till past midnight. There will also be ban on vehicles proceeding towards Aurora Towers from Nehru Memorial chowk; from Dorabjee chowk to Aurora Towers; from Blue Nile chowk to Dorabjee chowk; between Teentofa chowk to Aurora tower; between Silver jubilee chowk and Aurora tower. The vehicle owners can use Nehru Memorial chowk, Kirad chowk, Blue Nile chowk, via Dastur School road, Bank House Junction, and Teentofa chowk.The stretch from Tarapore road to Aurora Towers chowk will be closed. The vehicle owners have been advised to park their vehicles at the road side between Blue Nile chowk and Bank House chowk and proceed on foot towards Mahatma Gandhi road.
