
VADODARA, June 29: The issue of transfer of powers from the Vadodara District Development Officer to the executive committee of the Panchayat is likely to be taken up in the General Board meeting on Tuesday.
Highly placed sources said though at the last Board meeting the members had resolved to give the powers to the Committee, I U Patel of the Congress had moved the Court. Sources said the Court had stayed the implementation and directed that the matter be taken up in the next meeting.
The Social Justice Committee — dissolved by the ruling BJP in the last meeting as it was headed by Sombhai Bhil, a rebel candidate in the assembly elections — issue is also likely to be taken up. The Development Commissioner had said that the Board had no right to dissolve the Committee.The matter regarding the DDO’s monetary powers is also likely to be discussed.
Sources said although the opposition members could raise a hue and cry over the issues, ruling BJP members had been reportedly asked to refrain from commenting.
In the last meeting, a section of BJP members had opposed some decisions taken by their party.
Sources further said prior to the Board meeting, BJP members would meet to discuss issues to figure in Tuesday’s meeting.
