The Adivasi Students Association (ASA) has called for a 36-hour Assam bandh over the violent clashes between its supporters and locals even as visiting former Jharkhand chief minister Arjun Munda called for dismissal of the state government.
The violence left at least one dead and 240 injured.
Munda, a prominent tribal leader himself, who visited the injured at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital here, alleged that more than 21 ASA members have been missing since yesterday’s incident and did not rule out the government’s effort to “hide the actual death toll”.
“We believe that many more people have died because 21 student activists are missing”, Munda said.
He alleged that the Tarun Gogoi government had “no moral right to continue” and should quit.
Demanding a judicial probe into the incident, Munda announced that the BJP has given “moral support” to tomorrow’s bandh.
