Members of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha today paid tributes to the security personnel and others who died in their valiant attempt to foil a terror strike on Parliament on this day, four years ago.
‘‘Four years back our Parliament was the target of a cowardly terrorist attack. The attack was foiled by the alertness displayed by security personnel of CRPF, Delhi Police, ITBP and Parliament Watch and Ward security,’’ Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said.
In their efforts to safeguard Parliament and its occupants, five security personnel of Delhi Poice, a woman constable of CPRF and two security assistants of Parliament Watch and Ward staff ‘‘made the Supreme sacrifice of laying down their lives,’’ he said.
Condemning the attack, Rajya Sabha Chairman Bhairon Singh shehkhawat said, ‘‘we express our firm resolve to fight acts of terrorism with determination. We will not allow terrorism to impede our development.’’
The Lok Sabha Speaker also mentioned that a person from the electronic media (Vikram Singh Bisht) sustained injuries in the attack, and later died.
‘‘The solemn occassion calls for renewed efforts to combat this global terrorism. Let us, therefore, rededicate ourselves to protect the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country from all dangers, both internal and external,’’ he added.
