MUMBAI, Jan 23: The Oshiwara police have arrested one Vijendra Singh for duping a college student to the tune of Rs 2 lakh by promising him admission to a city engineering college.
According to inspector Mukund Kulkarni of the Oshiwara police station, Singh was arrested and charged under Section 420 and 506 (II) of the Indian Penal Code for cheating and threatening to kill Jeevan Uday Bhaskar.
Bhaskar, a student of Bhavan’s College at Andheri, had given Singh Rs 2 lakh on the promise that Singh would arrange for his admission to an engineering college in North-West Mumbai.
Singh claimed he knew the college trustees and would manage to secure Bhaskar admission under the non-resident Indian quota. Bhaskar was introduced to the accused by his younger brother Bupendra Singh, who is also studying at Bhavan’s College, Kulkarni added.
When Bhaskar asked for a refund, he was issued a cheque, which bounced. Singh later threatened to kill him if he asked for the money, police said.
