A day after the CK Birla Group suspended work at its Hindustan Motors plant in Uttarpara, following a month-long agitation by a section of workers, the state government today said that it would be meeting the company’s workers and management at Writers’ Buildings tomorrow. “We have called a tripartite meeting on Friday to resolve the impasse as we believe the continued closure of the Hindustan Motors factory would adversely impact the economy of Hoogly,” principal secretary (labour ) Subesh Das said.
Meanwhile, West Bengal labour minister Mrinal Banerjee visited the Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) this morning to enquire about Debasish Mukhopadhyay, a Hindustan Motors manager who was allegedly assaulted on Tuesday.
