While former minister Amarmani Tripathi has been remanded to CBI custody for a week, the investigating agency is also likely to arrest his wife in connection with the murder of poetess Madhumita Shukla in Lucknow on May 9.
A CBI team is already camping in Gorakhpur and has reportedly collected evidence linking his wife with the killers. Sources said the agency got vital clues from the interrogation of jailed criminal Raju Pandey, also Madhumani’s relative, in Pilibhit. Madhumita’s domestic servant Deshraj, who has been kept at the CBI office at Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, is also likely to be grilled further because as per the evidence, one person had reportedly come to meet the poetess that day. Deshraj had been claiming that two persons had come to meet her on May 9.
Today, court remanded Tripathi to CBI custody till September 30. The former minister, who was sent to jail on Monday, will now remain on remand with the CBI in New Delhi.
