INDORE, January 29: The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) today disqualified 26 players for being over-aged for the individual events in the ongoing 60th National and inter-state sub-junior and cadet table tennis championship here. The players were disqualified on medical board recommendation.

short article insert Twenty-three protests were submitted in the ongoing championship. In 20 cases players were found over-age, while six players were disqualified on the recommendation of medical board at the West Zone championship at Thane.

The medical report was received after the completion of team events. Therefore, the results of team championship would remain same though many players found over-age played crucial role in their team’s achievement in the team events.

Defending Cadet girls champion Debarati Sarkar was found over-age in sub-junior category. Other prominent players to figure in this list include cadet girls top seed Mousami Pal (Bengal) and sub-junior boys second seed Subhadeep Saha.

Five leading players of Bengal, which won all the fourteam titles in this championship, are included in the list. Four players each from Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, three from hosts Madhya Pradesh, two from Delhi and one each from Bihar, Assam, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana were found over-age. Action against these players would be decided in TTFI’s executive committee meeting, Chauhan said.

Disqualified players in sub-junior boys category are: T Nikhil (TN), Subhadeep Das (Bng), Sourav Pradhan (Bng), Somnath Das (Bng), Aditya Puri (Delhi). Sub-junior girls: Shruti Prasad (Kar), Nivedita Sawle (MP), Nida Pasha (MP), Mousami Paul (Bng), Monalisa (Bihar), Sangeetha Sheshadri (TN), Madhurma Patkar (Mah).

Cadet Boys: Yaser Pasha (MP), V Vidur (Kerala), K Yogesh (UP), Onkar Tanksale (Mah), Ankur Mahajan (Mah), Rajat Chopra (Delhi).

Cadet Girls: Pronisha Barua (Assam), Aditya Jagannath (Mah), Meenu Babbar (Har), Himani Bhatt (Guj), M Aparna (TN), S Prasanna (TN), Debarati Sarkar (Bng) and Anjali Dhawan (Pun).
