The battle at IRMA continued on Thursday with Dr V. Kurien handing over a relieving letter to director K.P. Reddy, while his rivals on the board adopted a resolution that Reddy would continue for three months, till a new director is found.

Against this, Kurien went ahead and constituted a three-member panel to manage institute affairs till a director is appointed. Reddy has made it clear he’s in no mood to stay on. However, he has agreed to the board resolution but asked members to find a new director at the earliest.

This evening,, IRMA founder-chairman Kurien personally handed over the relieving letter to Reddy.

Earlier in the day, eight members of the IRMA governing board had adopted the resolution, which Kurien had refused to sign.

‘‘Dr Kurien does not have the power to appoint and relieve as per the order of the high court. Even now, he has taken an incorrect step by relieving Reddy from his service,’’ a board member said.

According to those in the Kurien camp, he has ‘‘constituted a management panel comprising of three members to look after the day-to-day affairs of the institute with effect from September 2, 2005. The interim arrangement will continue till a new director is appointed.’’
