CHANDIGARH, Aug 23: Three lives were lost in accidents in the city on Saturday. While, in one the driver against whom cases were registered was arrested yesterday, the others continue to evade arrest.

Lakhwinder Singh, of Phase IV, SAS Nagar, was killed on the spot when a Punjab Roadways bus PB 65 2036 reportedly hit his motorcycle on the road dividing Sectors 43 and 44, at 9.15 p.m. last night. The bus driver managed to escape, police said. He has not been arrested yet.

Cyclist Mohammed Shahnawaz was killed after being hit by a truck on the Sukhna Choe bridge. An eyewitness told the police that a speeding truck (HP10 0687) going from Chandigarh towards Manimajra, hit the cyclist from behind. The cyclist sustained a head injury and later died at the General Hospital. The truck driver, Gian Chand, was arrested after the registration of a case.

In another accident, that occurred yesterday afternoon, an unidentified pedestrian was struck down by a military coloured gypsy, near the grain market.

An eyewitness told the police that the deceased coming from Sector 28 crossed the road and was hit by a fast moving Gypsy coming from Sector 27 and going towards Panchkula. The gypsy reportedly sped away after injuring the pedestrian. The deceased was taken to the General Hospital in a police ambulance. But was declared brought dead on arrival.
