Kevin Lisbie and Steve Watson both scored premier league hat-tricks on Sunday as Charlton Athletic came from behind to beat Liverpool 3-2 and Everton demolished Leeds United 4-0.

Fulham earned a convincing 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, while Manchester City missed a host of chances as they were held to a goalless draw by Tottenham Hotspur. The place to be for goals was The Valley, where Charlton stunned Liverpool thanks to their Jamaica striker Lisbie.

Czech midfielder Vladimir Smicer gave Liverpool an early lead, brilliantly put through by Australia playmaker Harry Kewell, but a double strike by Lisbie put Charlton in front just before the break. England striker Michael Owen equalised within minutes of the re-start from the penalty spot but Lisbie, who has been regularly barracked by Charlton fans, answered his critics in style with a superb solo winner in the 83rd minute. Kewell hit the woodwork in stoppage time but Charlton held on for a first home league win of the season that Left them 12th in the table on eight points, while Liverpool slipped to eighth with 11 points. Lisbie, a London-born product of Charlton’s academy, said: “It’s my first hat-trick with the first team. It’s always good to be scoring but a hat-trick against Liverpool of all teams is even better.” As for the fans who this time cheered him off when the 24-year-old was substituted, Lisbie said: “It turns quickly sometimes. At the start of the season, I got booed off.

“I’ve been here since I was 14 … so it was a bit difficult with the fans getting on top of me, but I suppose they only wanted the best out of me.”

Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier blamed his side’s blunders for their defeat, saying: “We scored a goal, we were in control of the game and made some silly mistakes.
