Barring stray incidents of violence in which two persons were killed and several injured, the polling for 32 LS seats here passed off peacefully. One person was shot dead at Yusufpur in Ghazipur when a gunman opened fire. In mahadeva village in Basti, a person was beaten to death by members of the rival group on his way to the booth.

Congress candidate from Pratapgarh Ratna Singh and his opponent Samajwadi Party’s Akshay Pratap Singh received minor injuries when their supporters clashed at Latifpur village. A police inspector and a presiding officer were injured at Gonda.

Congress has demanded repoll in several polling booths in Sultanpur LS constituency, alleging largescale rigging.
