UAE conducts tests to induce artificial rains

The United Arab Emirates on Wednesday conducted tests to induce artificial rain, which yielded light to medium showers in some areas of the country.

The Meteorological Department at the National Centre of Meteorology and seismology (NCMS), used planes to sprinkle cloud seeding salts in moist clouds heading towards Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain, the Emirates news agency said.

Cloud seeding is a form of weather modification, used mostly to increase precipitation, by introducing particles into moist clouds.

The monitoring stations have already registered light to medium rainfalls in different areas of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the agency said, adding the Centre is planning to repeat the tests tomorrow.
