A group of six MPs from the UK visited India to gain an insight into the country’s fight against tuberculosis. The group on Tuesday interacted with members of the Indian Medical Parliamentarians Forum and discussed the need for more funding and commitment to fight the disease, besides a new vaccine. “TB is not a prevalent disease in the UK and though we thought we had eradicated it, almost 9,000 cases a year are being reported now. The numbers have increased and are a major cause of public concern,” said Nick Herbert, MP, Co-Chair of the UK all Parliamentary Party Group on TB. MPs from both countries signed an International Call to Stop TB, urging more action on part of all stakeholders to renew the fight. “We would like to take back our experience from India and persuade our government to invest more in this problem,” said Herbertt.
