July 4: The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) has proposed to standardise water charges to generate more revenue. The old system of charging the bills by meter reading will be scrapped if the proposals are passed by the general body meeting of the UMC.
The proposed hike in water charges if passed will yield Rs 17 crore for the corporation per annum against Rs 6 crore per year being collected. The civic administration proposes to charge a flat rate of Rs 50 per month from hutment-dwellers. The standing committee chairman , Narendra Rajani said building admeasuring 150 sq. ft. will be charged Rs 80 per month.
