Unable to get married, woman commits suicide

A 39-year-old woman committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her residence in Vrindavan Bungalows near Shyamal crossing here on Saturday morning.

A 39-year-old woman committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her residence in Vrindavan Bungalows near Shyamal crossing here on Saturday morning.

The deceased, identified as Sunita Khamar, left a suicide not, saying she took the extreme step for not being able to get married.

The police said that Sunita doused herself with kerosene and set herself afire around 6 am when her parents were out for morning walk. When her father, a vegetable businessman, Champak Khamar and mother returned home around 8 am, they found Sunita had been charred to death. The neighbours later informed the Satellite police.

“According to her suicide note, Sunita was under depression because of not getting married. She had held no one responsible for her death,” Inspector J J Patel said, adding that her two younger sisters were married.

Her postmortem, according to the police, confirmed that she died of burn injuries.

“We have registered a complaint of an accidental death and investigations are on,” Patel said.
