Dhanbad Jail is in the news for the disappearance of an undertrial prisoner and five cops who were accompanying him.

NC Jain, a prime accused in the bitumen scam, reportedly went missing after he was allowed to go to the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi for treatment, as per a September 4 court order.

“Jain was escorted by four police constables and an assistant sub-inspector,” claims Jail Superintendent Ashok Choudhary. While hearing the case, a CBI special court had asked the jail superintendent to produce Jain in court on November 16. Choudhary informed the court the same day that Jain had been sent to AIIMS as per an earlier order.

The special court had then directed him to seek status report on Jain from AIIMS. AIIMS wrote back that nobody by the name of NC Jain had been admitted at the institute.

Choudhary has, now, approached Dhanbad SP Baljit Singh to trace the six, including the five cops. Singh, however, is in Hyderabad for training and a search is yet to be launched to find the missing six.
