With the VHP dharm sansad set to meet on February 22 to plan a renewed agitation on the Ayodhya issue, another Sangh Parivar outfit, Swadeshi Jagran Manch here today announced a two-month-long nation-wide agitation against the economic policies of the Vajpayee Government from April 14.

Describing the Vajpayee Government as ‘‘untrustworthy’’, Manch convenor P. Muralidhar Rao charged it with the neglect of ‘‘swadeshi’’ and alleged that it was pushing the ‘‘big business’’ of disinvestment.

‘‘And the Congress too,’’ he claimed, was not playing the role of an Opposition party. Therefore, the Manch would ‘‘expose the devious and deviant persons and policies’’ promoted by the Government and make disinvestment an issue for a public debate.

Rao stopped short of naming anyone, but his target was clearly the ‘‘ruling party’’ and Disinvestment Minister Arun Shourie. And he even went on to seek the dissolution of the Disinvestment Ministry.

Questioning the intentions of the Vajpayee government, Rao said disinvestment had ‘‘become a big business’’ in the hands of ministers. ‘‘No one can say with a hand on his heart that the evaluation process of various disinvestment deals was beyond doubt,’’ he noted.

He criticised the privatisation of the oil sector in utter disregard of its ‘‘strategic’’ nature, and said: ‘‘They don’t even take into account the dubious credentials of those buying these public sector units.’’
