The Finance Ministers of the North-Eastern States on Tuesday resolved to have a uniform rate of sales tax on all commodities by this year end. This was decided in the FMs meeting of all the NE States including Sikkim here.

Briefing reporters at the end of the meeting, Nagaland FM K. Therie said the NE States including Sikkim would adopt the uniform sales tax as directed by the empowered committee on tax to avoid disparities among the States and achieve a common market in the region. He said the ministers appealed to the Centre to continue with the sales tax based incentives to industrial units in order to boost industrialisation in the region. Efforts would also be made to have a broad-based common industrial policy for the NE Region and Sikkim, he further added.
