LUCKNOW, NOV 15: The 50-member ministry led by Ramprakash Gupta in Uttar Pradesh will be expanded on Wednesday. The size will be more or less the same as that of the 89-member Kalyan Singh government, the Chief Minister told newspersons here on Monday.

“The ministry expansion will take place on Wednesday at 10 am and thereafter portfolios will be allocated,” Gupta, who held a meeting of senior party ministers in his Cabinet, said, adding that a few new faces may also find berths.

However, he said that chances of dropping any minister of the previous Government were remote. On the demand of coalition parties over portfolio allocation, Gupta said the BJP high command had left the decision of allocating portfolios to him and he would decide the matter accordingly.

The Chief Minister, who was yet to allocate portfolios to any of his ministers, later left for Delhi for consultations with party high command on the matter.

State BJP president Rajnath singh told reporters that portfolio distribution was the prerogative of the Chief Minister. “Guptaji is a judicious person and he will take a right decision,” he said. Singh said that the coalition partners’ role in the state has throughout been positive and “we are confident that they will continue to play a positive role.”

He said capability and experience were the only criteria in the BJP and the decision to change the Chief Minister was taken keeping in mind the party organisations’ interests.
