The UPA government at the Centre of did not ‘dare’ to convene the monsoon session of Parliament and is delaying the issuing of the notification because it has “no political majority in the House”, the CPI-M alleged on Tuesday.
“The monsoon session is scheduled to start on August 11 for which notification was necessary on or before July 28 last (two weeks before the session). But the government did not make any notification till on Tuesday sensing that it has no political majority in Parliament”, CPI-M Politburo member and Rajya Sabha member Sitaram Yechuri told reporters.
‘‘Congress took recourse to horse trading for winning the trust vote on July 22. But now, if they want to pass any bill in Parliament, their minority would be proved on the floor of the house,’’ he claimed.
Yechury said issues like the imposition of President rule in Jammu and Kashmir, serial blasts in different places of the country, increase in prices of essential commodities and the need to restore public distribution system needed to be urgently discussed but the government has not yet convened the session of the Parliament.
The Centre, he said, should take all efforts to defuse tension in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of Amarnath land transfer row.
CPI-M would participate in the all-party meeting to discuss the problems facing Jammu and Kashmir if it is convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he said in reply to a question.
