State Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi trained her guns at Chief Minister Mayawati saying that the Congress will not sit idle on the misuse of money released by the Centre for development works in Uttar Pradesh. She was speaking at Anand Bhawan today. This is her first homecoming after being elected as the Uttar Pradesh Congress president. She called upon party workers to sink individual differences and prepare themselves for the Lok Sabha elections. “The Congress is the only party which has its cadre, not only in every part of the state, but also in each community and caste,” she said after garlanding the statue of her father Hemvati Nand Bahuguna, former UP chief minister. “We will make the people realise that parties which operate on caste lines like the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party and communal parties like BJP have damaged the state. We will also expose the misuse of money by first the Mulayam government and now the Mayawati government, which is unable to put a check on prevailing corruption,” she said. She said the blanket ban on students’ union elections was not justified. “We are against the ban because everybody knows that students were the front runners in the Quit India Movement in 1942,” she said.
