BHOPAL, July 9: The month-long wrangling over the appointment of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president ended today with party chief Sitaram Kesri nominating Social Welfare Minister, Urmila Singh to the post.In a bid to balance the intra-party groups, former Union Minister Dalbir Singh was made the working president of the State party unit. While Urmila was supported by the Arjun Singh-Madhavrao Scindia combine, Chief Minister Digvijay Singh backed Dalbir Singh.Meanwhile, according to agency reports, Urmila has denied that there was any factionalism in the State party unit. She said her appointment to the post of the PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) chief had been welcomed by many senior party leaders. The Arjun-Scindia combine had earlier forwarded the name of Rajya Sabha member, Ajit Jogi for the post. But hours before the polling was to take place on June 10, the Arjun-Scindia combine cleverly appealed to the delegates to leave the matter to Kesri, and Digvijay Singh was caught in the trap. The two sides have since been arguing their cases in Delhi.
