
CHANDIGARH, Dec 17: The India-Iraq Cultural Society has condemned the aggression of the United States of America against Iraq.
In a an emergent meeting of the Society here today, held under the presidentship of P.S. Goraya, the Society flayed the sudden air attack on Iraq by the US and termed it as a violation of the United Nations Charter and also a threat to global peace.
The Society also hailed the stand taken by the UN Secretary General Koffi Annan who had disapproved the US aggression, appreciating Russia and China for standing against the US.
The Society, meanwhile, called upon like-minded people to condemn the US and send a plea to the United Nations for lifting the sanctions against Iraq to enable the Iraqi population to live like others in the world.
Meanwhile the secretary of the local unit of the CPI, Sohan Lal Bansal today condemned the attack launched by the USA against Iraq. In a release here, he said that repeated threats and bombardment of Iraq may earn a temporary respite for US president Bill Clinton from pressures of the domestic politics but it could never earn the approval of peace lovers world over. He said the peace lovers in the world in fact wanted US chief executive to discipline the rulers of Israel to ensure peace in the middle east. Terming the latest action of the USA as a global goondaism, he however added that the global gendarme image of the USA had taken a severe beating over the years.
