US bahu gathers support for Singla

TJ Singla, daughter-in-law of Punjab Finance Minister and Congress leader Surinder Singla, is busy campaigning for her father-in-law against Navjyot Singh Sidhu ahead of the Lok Sabha by-poll here.

Born and bred in the US, 32-year-old TJ Singla came to the temple city to help the Minister gather support against Sidhu, an established face here and a famous television personality.

Carrying her eight-month-old baby when campaigning, the attractive T J Singla is doing her best to win hearts by greeting people with her warm namaste. She is also speaking to the masses of her father-in-law’s accomplishments as a minister in the Congress government, promising them development in the constituency if they vote for him.

T J Singla has been assigned a tough task of diverting people’s attention from Sidhu, who is already a popular figure the constituency. She has been joined by Singla’s daughter Shweta, who has come from Belgium to campaign for her father.

Wearing a Punjabi suit, the journalism and management degree holder who worked as a consultant in Shanghai, New Zealand and Sri Lanka before her child Karan was born, T J Singla did not shy away from taking digs at the former cricketer. On Wednesday, T J Singla also toured the villages around Ajnala.

Observers said that T J Singla’s entry has pepped up the campaign for her father-in-law, although she has had to convince people that she is not an outsider. “We are all Punjabis and there is no such thing as outsider. People have overwhelmed me with their love and affection,” she says.
