
VMC serves notice on Dinesh Mills
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation has served a notice on Dinesh Mills, asking it to pay Rs 25 lakh towards the outstanding differential amount in octroi. Sources said the notice followed the local civil court’s rejection of the company contention that the VMC charges were too high. The company brings raw material from a neighbouring district for processing in the city.

The Association of Residents’ Housing Societies of Dandia Bazar-Makarpura has written to District Collector Anil Mukim, alleging that the Vadodara Municipal Corporation was cleaning up the Masia kans (natural storm water drain) near Akashwani in Makarpura without removing slums that had encroached on it, despite an order to this effect from Gujarat High Court.
Power theft
The GEB has detected theft of power worth Rs 5.7 crore between June 7 and 13, according to an official release. Out of the 19,408 connections checked in various parts of the State, irregularities were detected in 1,678 cases.
BJP march
The city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has organised a programme on Wednesday, the death anniversary of Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee. A Save Kashmir March’ will be taken out from the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Gruh to the Shaheed Bhagat Singh statue through Ahmedabadi Pole, Tower and Dandia Bazaar. The party’s women’s wing will also organise a blood donation enrollment campaign. The services of the people who sign up will be sought whenever blood needs to be sent to jawans in Kargil.

Surat: Additional Collector M B Patel has asked cable operators to deposit entertainment tax for April and May with interest by June 30.
