Kashiram confident of BJP victory
Union Textile Minister Kashiram Rana has said that the Kargil issue will definitely benefit the BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. During a brief stopover on his way to New Delhi on Tuesday, he told reporters that his party would bag about 22 seats in the State. Criticising Shankersinh Vaghela for his speeches against Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, Rana said the voters of Gujarat would teach the Congress a lesson.

Express special
The Railways will run an express special train between Vadodara and Dakor on Wednesday with the rake of the Valsad-Vadodara intercity express, a railway release said. The train will leave at 10.55 am and arrive at Anand at 11.40 am. It will leave Anand at 11.45 am and arrive at Dakor at 12.25 pm. On the return journey, the train will leave from Dakor at 3.25 pm, arrive at Anand at 4.15 pm and leave five minutes later to arrive at Vadodara at 5.20 pm.

Sporadic rain
Only four of the district’s 12 talukas recorded rain in the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Tuesday. The district flood control room said that Vadodara received only 1 mm (total rainfall so far 219 mm), Chhotaudepur received 2 mm (139 mm), Naswadi 2 mm (235 mm) and Kwant 1 mm (145 mm). Rain has been forecast for several parts of Central Gujarat during the next 24 hours.

Train timings
In view of some wiring work to be undertaken at the Ankleshwar railway yard on July 28, 30 and August 4, the 100 up Bharuch-Virar Passenger will leave Bharuch at 12.40 pm and arrive at Kosamba at 1.10 pm on these days. It will leave Kosamba at 2.54 pm, from where it will maintain regular timings.

Painting contest
The Vadodara district information office will organise a painting contest at Kamatibaug planetarium as part of the Independence Day celebrations on August 12. An official spokesman said there would be two groups: one for students in classes V to VII and the other for those in classes VIII to X; the subjects are the Kargil victory and Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan’ respectively. Participants have to send in their application to the information office, behind Khadi Gramudyog, before August 10.
