
ACB office shifted from Vadodara
The office of the assistant director, Anti Corruption Bureau has been shifted from Vadodara to Surat, following a State government Home ministry decision. The office, set up in 1976 at Kothi Building in Vadodara, controls the region from Vadodara to the Dangs and has been shifted for the sake of convenience from May 1, 1998.
The office, which will be housed at the Bahumali building in Nanpura, will oversee work in ACB police stations of the districts of South Gujarat including Bharuch. Assistant controller B S Vasava of the Vadodara division will now be available in Surat, according to a release.
Traffic directive
The executive engineer, in-charge of roads and buildings, in a statement issued here on Sunday has asked vehicles coming from Mumbai and going towards Vadodara to drive slowly on the national highway as the Mahisagar river bridge was being repaired. The repair work is to be completed by June 30. A number of other diversions in traffic have also been put into effect to ensure speedy repair work on the highway.
OPD services
Outdoor patient Department services at the New Civil hospital have begun following an order by the State health department. OPD services will be available from 9 am to noon and 5 pm to 7 pm on week days. On Saturdays, the facility will be available only during the morning hours while the emergency ward of the hospital will remain open throughout the day, New Civil hospital Medical Superintendent B V Subhramaniam said on Sunday.
TRYSEM Yojna
Recognised organisations and institutions, who wish to start new classes and courses as part of the TRYSEM Yojna, have been directed to send in their applications to the Surat District Rural Development Agency office located in Golandaz Street on or before May 15. All details, including information about the institution, list of classes and courses being run as well that those courses and classes that the applicants wish to commence must be mentioned in the application, according to agency director N R Pandya.
Home Guards
Home Guards attached to units in the city and the district have been directed to be present at their respective unit headquarters on Tuesday as they will be deployed at various places in the city and district on the day of Muharram, a release said. All Home Guards, providing honorary services at government offices, corporations and private organisations have been directed to report for duty as part of the bandobast.
Husain effigy
VADODARA: An effigy of M F Husain was burnt at the Raopura Tower here on Tuesday by Youth Congress leaders. The members were protesting the artist’s recent work in Mumbai, which they said should be condemned. A protest rally, by the city wing of the Shiv Sena (Jai Hindu Seva Samaj), will also be taken out in the city on Tuesday.
BoB credit plan
The Bank of Baroda has prepared an annual credit plan (1998-99) for Vadodara district with a total outlay of Rs 167.56 crore for priority sector advances.
