Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, Collector and District Magistrate Anil Mukim said that the plan included setting up of an state-of-the-art information centre linked with taluka-level offices and training of personnel to provide better services to the people.

The centre project would call for an expenditure of more than Rs 1 crore, Mukim informed the gathering, adding that the amount would be raised locally by organising an entertainment night programme on March 21.

Film stars, who would be present in the programme, include Pooja Batra, Varsha Ushgaonkar, Ritu Shivpuri, Sudha Chandran, Mamta Kulkarni, Shakti Kapoor, Sheeba and Tabassum. Well-known singers Sudesh Bhonsle and Surendra Singh will also present a music programme.

A total Rs 51 lakh would be generated by sale of tickets, while Rs 75 lakh would be contributed by sponsors and private and public sector undertakings, including IPCL, IOC-Gujarat Refinery, GSFC and GIPCL. Mukim said Rs 15 lakh would be spent on the night, the rest would be used for the model district programme.

According to Mukim, Rs 45 lakh would be spent on procuring computer hardware and software and training of personnel, Rs 25 lakh on civil works and restoration of buildings and the rest would be kept in fixed deposits, the interest received from which would be utilised to finance these systems and infrastructure.

He said the GSFS men had already started studying how to computerise and network the collectorate’s files and documents and hoped that the entire modernisation and technological upgradation programme would be completed in six months.
