VADODARA, Jan 7: Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel today announced that Vadodara would be converted into a model district of Gujarat, which would be made a model state contrary to a mafia state like Bihar.

Addressing a public meeting at Jubilee Baug here, he admitted that the people of the country and the State had to cope with inflation during the past about eight-month tenure of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but wanted people to “appreciate that I have myself come to hear your complaints, unlike other politicians, and that too after becoming the chief minister”, he said.

“I agree with Congress’ allegations that we do not know how to rule. That is true since we do not know corruption, ” he said and alleged that they could indulge in malpractices even during droughts and natural calamities.

He said the Opposition had criticised the BJP Government for the Pokhran blasts but hundreds of NRIs all over the world had hailed the blasts and offered financial backing to India. He said this was much more than all foreign sanctions.

Meanwhile, addressing officers of the Revenue, Panchayat, Agriculture and Rural Development Department, he urged the administration to strive for result-oriented work to regain confidence of the masses.

On questions put by employees of government departments over vacant posts, he claimed the State Government would fill all such posts.

He said 3,500 new villages would be included in the existing 10,945 “Gokul Gram” villages next year.
